Ode to smoked salmon | The California daily


Prepared by hot or cold smoking or curing, smoked salmon has been around since the Middle Ages and remains popular today in many indigenous, Greek and Roman cuisines. Its partially dehydrated method of preparation allows fish to last longer than most proteins, making it one of my most used ingredients in college. Whether I want to make a fancy breakfast, need an extra source of protein, or just want to jazz up some plain fettuccini Alfredo, this dried seafood is usually what I base my recipes on. . Although it’s often pricey, the smoky and savory flavors are quite strong, which goes a long way. Try it using three of my easiest recipes here!

Smoke salmon onion bites


  • ½ onion
  • 3 pieces of smoked salmon
  • ½ lemon


  1. Remove the outer layer of onion and cut it into thin strips. Separate into individual pieces before transferring to a bowl of ice water. This will help reduce the spiciness.
  2. Slice the smoked salmon into bite-sized strips.
  3. Bunch four to five slices of onion strips over the end of the smoked salmon strips, rolling until they roll into a roll.
  4. Lemon juice directly on each piece and enjoy it as an appetizer or snack!

Smoked Salmon Bagels


  • ½ ripe avocado
  • 1 bagel
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese
  • 2 pieces of smoked salmon
  • A pinch of Trader Joe’s Everything But Sesame Bagel Seasoning Mix


  1. Remove the pit from the avocado. Slice into pieces.
  2. Cut your choice of bagel in half before spreading the cream cheese evenly.
  3. Place a piece of smoked salmon on each half before garnishing with avocado slices.
  4. Sprinkle on Trader Joe’s Everything But Sesame Bagel Seasoning Mix and enjoy it with a hot cup of tea or coffee!

Mango salad with smoked salmon


  • ½ mango
  • 1 hard-boiled egg
  • ½ ripe avocado
  • 5 cherry tomatoes
  • 3 pieces of smoked salmon
  • 3 cups of your favorite greens (lettuce, spinach, or anything else will do!)
  • Any dressing


  1. Dice the mango, then transfer the pieces to a bowl and leave in the refrigerator.
  2. Peel and dice a hard-boiled egg.
  3. Cut the avocado into equal slices.
  4. Cut the cherry tomatoes in half.
  5. Cut the smoked salmon into bite-sized pieces.
  6. In a large bowl, combine the greens with the vinaigrette of your choice. Mix well.
  7. Garnish the salad with mango, hard-boiled egg, sliced ​​avocado, cherry tomatoes and smoked salmon. Enjoy!
