Mowi Ireland MD announces departure in 2022 – Donegal Daily


After 40 years of work in salmon farming, Jan Feenstra, Managing Director of Mowi Ireland, announces his retirement on July 1, 2022.

Based in Fanad, Mowi Ireland Organic Farms are located in five counties along the Atlantic coast.

Jan first joined the Irish farm in 1982 when it was called Fanad Fisheries which at the time had a 50/50 joint venture with Mowi. Jan took over the management reins in 1997 and was involved in several owner and name changes over the following years.

Ivan Vindheim, CEO of Mowi, said: “I am very grateful for Jan’s long tenure with our company, during a period which has seen our Irish business unit become one of the world’s leading suppliers of premium organic salmon. . Jan’s vast experience in organic salmon farming and his ability to lead a highly efficient and motivated team will be hard to replace. We are therefore delighted that Jan will continue to support Mowi throughout 2022 to share his knowledge.

Reflecting on his four decades of working in salmon farming, Jan says: “This business is never boring and certainly not for the faint of heart when working in a wild and natural environment! The success of our business over these years is based on the commitment and effort of our staff and colleagues – they made it easy for me and I am very grateful to them over the 40 years that I have been here.

Jan adds that he looks forward to “devoting more time to outdoor activities and personal projects.”

Mowi will begin an executive search process early next year.
