KLAIP awards great prizes


The West Arm Outdoors Club and the BC Wildlife Federation recently announced the winners of the Kootenay Lake Angler Incentive Program (KLAIP) grand prize draw at Main Jet Motorsports in Nelson.

The grand prize winners are Gordon Ogilvie of Wynndel and Larry Posnikoff of Crescent Valley.

Gordon won a Fishing Lodge package from Coastal Springs Float Lodge in Knight Inlet. The package includes four nights and three days of guided fishing for two, including seaplane transportation from Vancouver.

Larry Posnikoff won a Polaris Sportsman ATV from Main Jet Motorsports in Nelson.

Commenting on his big win, Gordon said: “Winning the grand prize made a long-held dream come true. Taking an inshore seaplane fishing trip is something I have always wanted to do, so excited to go to Coastal Springs Float Lodge and can’t wait. Thanks to the West Arm Outdoor club, BCWF and all the sponsors for making this possible.

Gordon has a personal reason for participating in the program: “I remember the huge rainbow trout that populated the lake and saw their decline, so I want to help bring them back for future generations.”

Second Grand Prize winner Larry Posnikoff has big plans for his new ATV: “I plan to use my ATV to do more off-road exploration in our beautiful backcountry of Kootenay and beyond. beyond, ”he said.

Larry is also a big supporter of the Kootenay Lake Angler Incentive Program: “I have been passionate about fishing my entire life. I fish regularly at Kootenay Lake. I have seen the glory days and experienced the decline of the Kokanee. It is good news that steps are being taken to try to restore our fishery to world famous levels that we once enjoyed. I hope this program is successful so that young fishermen like my grandson experience the scramble of howling lines, as I did.

The draw marks the midpoint of the second year of the Kootenay Lake Angler Incentive Program. The program, a huge local success, has been extended until the end of May 2022, with another round of fantastic prizes for anglers of all ages.

The Kootenay Lake Angler Incentive Program is managed by the local West Arm Outdoors Club with support from the BC Wildlife Federation, Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development (FLNORD) , Main Jet Motorsports, Coastal Springs Float Lodge and several local merchants around Kootenay Lake.
