Demonstrate that new diets work for specially selected African catfish in RAS

(ABT) the online webinar:

  • Demonstrate that African catfish from MATE’s selective breeding program in Hungary can be cultured in RAS using novel feeds containing Candida meal – which have been produced as an alternative protein source to fishmeal by NORCE.
  • Demonstrate that the same specifically selected catfish can be cultured using iFishIENCi’s SmartRAS production technology.
  • Demonstrate the ability of SmartRAS production technology to manage stocking densities relevant to African catfish production with respect to water quality.

These topics will be exposed through a virtual tour of the site and a Q&A panel with experts involved in the project from ABT and MATE. Attendees will be able to interact with the study coordinator, Dr. Giovanni Marco Cusimano, and the technical team as they explain how their demonstration trials are helping to advance SmartRAS, as well as the novel foods and breeding program of the project.

Background

This event will be organized as part of the Horizon 2020 iFishIENCi project, which brings together 16 partners coordinated by AquaBioTech Group in a transdisciplinary effort to bring about real improvements in fish farming around the world.

The ambition of iFishIENCi is to develop and demonstrate disruptive innovations based on IoT/AI, considering the food value chain as a whole and addressing commercially important species, in emphasizing the quality of the fish.

Ending in July 2023, the current phase of the project incorporates technologies developed: including sensors, automated feeders, artificial intelligence and new feed formulations for testing in commercial environments with species such as sea bass , African catfish, Atlantic salmon and tilapia, grown in various production systems.
