Delta Air Lines reconnects customers across the pond as UK reopens to vaccinated travelers

  • Delta will restart Seattle and Detroit service to London Heathrow in October, adds more New York-JFK flights.
  • The UK welcomes fully vaccinated Americans with no quarantine requirements.
  • Delta’s FlyReady tool simplifies travel between the United States and London.

Delta is increasing service across the pond to nearly 30 weekly flights this fall, as the global gateway between the US and UK reopened to fully vaccinated US residents without quarantine on August 2.

Customers can choose nonstop service to London Heathrow (LHR) through four US hubs as Delta restarts service three times a week from Seattle (SEA) October 7 and service four times a week from Detroit (DTW) October 11. Moreover, New York-JFK flights will double to twice a day from October 6. Customers can also continue to fly daily from Atlanta (ATL).

With Delta’s joint venture partner, Virgin Atlantic, customers can also seamlessly connect to LHR with over 30 flights departing from Boston (BOS), Los Angeles (LAX) and Miami (MIA), as well as ATL and JFK. Today, airlines offer a total of 43 weekly flights, operated in collaboration with KLM and Air France.

This long-awaited reopening marks a major step since the borders closed to most travelers more than a year ago,Said Joe Esposito, senior vice president – Network Planning. “We are delighted to help customers regain their joy of traveling, always keeping their health and safety our top priority in the dynamic environment of global travel.

The US-UK corridor is essential for international travel and trade with 22 million people and 900,000 tonnes of freight transported between the two countries in 2019.

To get to London, customers will need to:

  • To provide both proof of vaccination and a negative test (PCR, LAMP or antigen) carried out within three days of departure.
  • Do a PCR test no later than two days after your arrival.

To re-enter the United States, customers must provide proof of a negative test within three days of departure.

Delta FlyReady takes the guesswork out of testing – with upcoming vaccination verification

Delta’s new digital health certification Delta FlyReadySM will help customers traveling between the US and UK to more easily manage testing requirements and verify results prior to arrival at the airport, saving them valuable time and reducing the risk of rejection boarding. Vaccination credentials will be incorporated later this summer. Over time, the solution will limit the amount of paperwork required to verify a customer’s Delta FlyReady status. *

Delta customers can stay up to date on entry details for all countries with the Delta discovery map as well as its one-stop shop Trip Planning Center.

* Customers using Delta FlyReady should always bring hard copies of their test results and other required documents with them on the day of travel, in accordance with requirements in some destinations.
