Keralites offers several finger-licking fish fries recipes, one of which is this authentic “Meen Chuttulli” or shallot-seasoned fish fry gives you a spice festival. It’s absolutely yum, delicious, spicy with tangy masala. The highlight is the baked shallots, chilies and garlic.
You can use Pomfrets (Avoli), Tuna (Choora) or Salmon (Kora) which taste very good. Moreover, since it consumes less oil, the consumption of fat is irrelevant.
- Fish: 500 grams
- Red chili: 10 digits
- Shallots: 50 grams
- Garlic: 40 grams
- Turmeric powder: 1/2 teaspoon
- Coconut oil: 50 ml
- Banana leaves: a small portion
- Salt to taste
- Tamarind water as needed
Cook the shallots, red pepper and garlic taken in equal parts on a skewer. Crush cooked food with turmeric powder and salt. Add tamarind water and coconut oil as needed. Mix the elements well and marinate the fish.
Now keep the marinated fish in a banana leaf with a few curry leaves. Fold the sheet and grill in a Tawa over medium heat. Sprinkle a little water as it heats up. Cook on both sides for 5 minutes.
Meen chuttulli is ready to serve with traditional tapioca or rice.
